Kárahnhúkavirkjun, Power Station

The project involves the construction of a power station for Kárahnjúkar dam. Three tunnels were dug (drainage tunnel, access tunnel and cable tunnel) and two vaults, one for the power station and one for the substation. A vertical pressure shaft leads to the power station vault. Additionally, a drainage ditch was dug, and an employee and service facility was erected next to the access tunnel opening.

VSO is responsible for:

• Construction supervision in collaboration with Lahmeyer International and Almenna Verkfræðistofan hf., Hönnun and Rafhönnun.

Project period: 2003-2007.

Client: Landsvirkjun.
